All is presently not well at the Igbo Eze North Central chapter of Neighborhood Watch security, as a human rights lawyer dragged the security outfit to the court, slamming a #50m(fifty million) lawsuit over what he described as illegal detention of women by the security outfit.
The lawyer, Barrister Onuora Odo told our correspondent that he initiated the legal exercise on behalf of his client, Mrs Anthonia Eya who is seeking redress over the illegal detention and dehumanization meted on her by men of Igbo Eze North Central Neighborhood Watch Security.
According impeccable sources, trouble started when a man named Nnabuike Obetta had issues with his wife, an issue that later resulted in divorce. However, it was rumoured that a Catholic Reverend Sister was at the center of the divorce between the couples. The Reverend Sister, Gloria Eze from Amufie but rented an apartment at Igogoro community later happened to learn that she’s being fingered to have a hand in the marital issues of the aforementioned couples, but rather than explore internal mechanism to address the issue, she, in collaboration with one Mr Uda Eeke approached the Central body command of Igbo Eze North Neighborhood Watch.
It was revealed that the security outfit, after allegedly collecting the sum of thirty thousand naira, swung into action and by 11:30pm, March 10, 2022 invaded in a gestapo style and arrested three married women alleged to be masterminds of the rumour linking the Reverend Sister to the divorce between Mr Nnabuike Obetta and his estranged wife. All entreaties to make the security men not to take the married women into custody at such odd time of the night fell on deaf ears as they drove the women into their office and switched of their phones after dumping them in their detention facility.
Copies of the suit filed at the Enugu Federal high Court dated 30th March 2022 and made available to Oceanicnews revealed that the applicant is seeking among others, a monetary compensation for the violation of her fundamental human rights.
