The Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika has relocated to the Eastern state of Enugu ahead of the planned reopening of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu that was closed down for repairs.
Oceanicnews was reliably informed that the minister’s relocation, alongside her official aides was to monitor the delivery and planned reopening of the the airport slated for Sunday, the 30th of August 2020.
This followed fears expressed at various quarters over the possible inability of meeting the August deadline set by the federal government for the resumption of flights in the airport, as there has been apprehension since the demolition of a several kilometer perimeter fence of the airport by a party laying claim to the ownership of a section of the land housing the international airport.
In giving assurance that everything possible would be done to resume flight operations in the state, the minister categorically stated that she personally decided to relocate to the state to monitor the contractors handling the repairs and also to forestall further sabotage on the airport facilities for whatever reason.
She also thanked the South East governors, especially the governor or Enugu state, Rt Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, for providing an enabling environmental for the smooth running of the airport repair project, saying that the federal government will be delighted to meet the August deadline for the reopening of facility.
