Protesters in Borno State yesterday protested against the disbandment of the State Anti Robbery Squad( SARS) unit of the police by the Inspector General of Police.
Protests calling for the scrapping of the SARS unit and general reform of the police sector, mostly held across the Southern part of the country yielded fruitful result as the police authority succumbed to pressure and disbanded the police unit that has been so much accused of extrajudicial killings and extortion.
The protest which was carried out by a group comprising of civil society organizations, youth, trade association and so many others were received by the Deputy governor His Excellency Usman Kadafur at the gate of the State government house in Maiduguri.
The protesters specifically condemned the scrapping of the SARS unit and urged government to reinstate them as they are needed in the restoration of peace in the state.
