Arresting Kanu Will Not Stop Biafra Agitation – Northern Group

Northern group under the aegis of Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has reiterated their calls for a referendum as a solution to the endless agitation for secession of Biafra from the country.

The group was reacting to the news of the arrest and repatriation of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed secessionist group, the Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB, by the Nigerian government.
According to the group, Kanu’s arrest has little or no effect on the agitation for Biafra.

They however commended the efforts of federal government in arresting Kanu to continue his trial. They equally appreciated the efforts of international police (Interpol).

In a statement made by the group’s spokesman, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, he said Kanu has a pending case of treasonable felony and jumping bail.

The statement said, “More importantly, we don’t see Kanu’s arrest affecting the issue of Biafra. While he faces trial hopefully, the CNG is insisting that this is the right time to tackle the Biafran issue once for all.
We stand our ground that a referendum must be held to determine this and all other agitations for self-determination from any part of the country.”
