Tragedy struck at Akaeze Development Center in Ivo local government area of Ebonyi state as a fully loaded 608 bus lost control and plunged into the Akaeze River.
Unconfirmed reports have it that no fewer than 30 persons died in the incident that occurred at the Akaeze bridge involving a bus conveying over 36 people from a burial function in the state.
Oceanicnews gathered that the bus which took off, heading to Enugu state after the burial ceremony made to overtake a trailer but lost control and jumped into the river.
However, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Loveth Odah stated that five persons have been rescued and one other victim died while receiving treatment.
He said: “The Victims are receiving treatment at St Denis hospital, Akaeze”.
